Boston, Massachusetts Auto Insurance - Agents

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States and largest in the state of Massachusetts as well as in the greater New England region. The city has a strong economic and cultural impact on the region as a historically major shipping port and manufacturing center.

Boston’s rich culture and history attract more than 16.3 million visitors every year. Boston is a thriving center of higher education leading many students to attend one of the city’s many colleges. The city’s economy is primarily based on research, electronics, engineering, finance, and biotechnology, making it a popular destination for business tourism.

The city is a leading financial center ranked fourteenth in the world first internationally for innovation. While the cost of living is among the highest in the country, the city continues to grow as more people cram themselves into it 48 square miles. Despite its status as the fourth most densely populated city in the country, Boston consistently ranks high on world livability surveys.

Prevailing wind patterns from the Atlantic Ocean make the weather in Boston unpredictable. Depending on the wind direction and jet stream positioning, conditions can be drastically different from one day to the next. Boston’s costal location also makes the city prone to Nor’easter weather systems, often producing a significant amount of snow and rain.

Boston sees a great deal of fog particularly in spring and summer. The city is also vulnerable to tropical storms and hurricanes especially in early autumn. Severe thunderstorms as well as large hail, damaging winds and heavy downpours tend to occur during the summer months.

The Boston Police Department works hard to collaborate with the community and keep crime rates particularly violent crime, low. Murder rates dropped 80% in the 1990s, an accomplishment that many refer to as the “Boston Miracle.” Since then, crime rates have unfortunately doubled again which, although still lower than twenty years ago, has led the police department to reevaluate their approach.

Public Transportation
Many prefer to get around downtown Boston on foot and is recommended for those not familiar with the area. The city center is notably confusing and features heavy traffic, one-way streets, limited parking, round-a-bouts, and many pedestrians.

As an alternative, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority operates the "T" which is a rapid transit system including elevated trains, subways, and surface routes. The "T" is supplemented by trolleys, street cars, and buses.

Other private carriers provide commuter trains, taxis, and ferry boats.
