Cambridge, Massachusetts is a city of around 106,000 spread about an area of about seven square miles. It is the located in Middlesex County and is the fourth most populous city in the state. Cambridge’s economy is based largely upon the world-renowned universities located there: Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Major roads leading in and out of the area include Route 2, Route 16, and Route 28 (McGrath Highway). The Massachusetts Turnpike also passes close to the area as well as Route 1 and Interstate 93. During late spring and early summer, the region can see violent thunderstorms with severe thunder and lightning storms, torrential rain, hail, and an occasional but rare tornado. In addition, remnants from Atlantic hurricanes can sometimes affect the area with heavy rain and high winds.
