It is universally acknowledged that most people who purchase a BMW regard their automobiles as well-earned status symbols. More than almost any other make of luxury performance vehicles, BMW evokes great loyalty with its owners. This is typified by how proud owners are of their cars, how well they maintain their “ultimate driving machines” and how many motor clubs exist that specifically cater to BMW enthusiasts.

Bayerische Motoren Werke, better known as BMW, was founded in Munich, Germany, almost one hundred years ago. It originally started out as a manufacturer of aircraft engines and was a leading producer until the end of World War One. After the armistice was signed, the German military was banned from making aircraft engines. At this time, BMW began to produce boat and truck engines and also farming equipment. It is thought that the company still continued to engineer aircraft engines, albeit in secret. In 1922, the first BMW factory was built in Munich.

The beginning of automobile production began in 1928 with the introduction of the BMW Dixi. And the rest, as they say, is history. Today, BMW is recognized as one of the leading manufacturers of luxury performance vehicles, motorcycles, and engines. Oh, and that famous BMW logo? It was designed in 1929 and has never changed- a blue and white circle surrounding a rotating engine propeller. It now is symbolic of the power and expert craftsmanship of German-made automobiles.

BMW’s also has an outstanding reputation as a maker of high performance motorcycles. The original design first entered the market during World War Two when the model with a sidecar attached became a huge hit with the public. BMW was also the innovative designer of the anti-lock braking system. Currently BMW offers four different series of motorcycles- the R, F, G, and H. The current BMW automobile models are the 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, X, Z, and M Series.

Whether you are the proud owner of a BMW automobile or a BMW motorcycle, your insurance coverage will likely be more expensive since anything manufactured by BMW is considered a luxury vehicle. As with any car insurance, the cost of your premium can vary greatly according to the make and model you are insuring. Be sure to contact different insurance companies and compare quotes before making your final choice.
